Rumpelstiltskin is The Name…

After long days of hard work involving lots of wire, glue, stitching and painting, my model for this unit is finally complete! (Although I’m a serial perfectionist so will probably go on to add lots of small details…). My character is Rumpelstiltskin from the popular fairytale, which apparently dates back almost eight thousand years!

He was great fun to make, I loved designing his outfits and working on him has finally got me interested in 3D art, which is something I always used to hate due to being forced to make boring clay pots at school using the worst kind of clay imaginable. But for this project I used a silicone based sculpey clay and have fallen in love with it as a material. It’s so easy to use and is amazing for holding detail and giving a life-like look to whatever you’re making.

I’m very happy with how my model has turned out as he looks very similar to my design sketches and his limbs are posable which will be handy for when I come to photograph him. I’ve already created many stop motion clips with him which has been great fun. Now it’s time for me to focus on my storyboard…
